AKC Disc Dog Titles

Our goal for 2025 is to be trial ready for my first ever AS1 but keep active by doing disc as well.

Why are there sports missing?

Our access to livestock (sheep, cattle, and ducks) is severely limited in our area because most herding trainers will not allow any dogs trained in protection in their facility due to bad prior experiences (being bitten).

We do not currently train for Agility.

Butter is on limited registration at this time. He will only be health tested if he completes an AS1 or higher, which is currently up for debate due to decoy sourcing issues.

About the Dog

Butter is a typical German Shepherd in that he often appears aloof and disinterested in friendly strangers, however he warms up quickly when offered affection or play from strangers.

Butter does have natural defense and has demonstrated multiple times to unwanted visitors he would act aggressively when he feels someone unknown is encroaching on the property. However, he does recognize known visitors and is the one to excitedly let me know his auntie (my training partner) is here. He is also quickly "disarmed" to all strangers by being introduced properly with a toy. He does have an sharp "edge" to him and will not tolerate being hit or provoked by a stranger. We do not believe any dog should tolerate being hit or injured by any member of the family, but especially not a German Shepherd.

Butter is not dog aggressive and is fair in his corrections. We do not breed dog aggressive dogs at von Vielfalt, all our dogs co-minge. That said, Butter does does not share food with other dogs due to his high food drive. He does not fight over toys though, he actually likes to tease other dogs with his toy to try to incite play!

Butter is extremely cat safe and is around my cat unsupervised. Butter has also been exposed to sheep and is learning the basics of moving sheep. He has not been ducks or cattle at this time.

Butter has no fear of fireworks and actually thinks screaming bottle rockets are yummy snacks. He may take notice of a strange or novel surface, but he does not hesitate or avoid it and if the surfaces is unstable he will still try to climb it if asked. No hesitation to climb stairs, even the metal see-through ones. He will without hesitation cram himself underneath a heavy couch or table to get his toy.

Butter has an amazing off switch, especially at UKC events where we compete in performance and conformation. In weight pull he will simply take a whole nap between his turns. Butter surprised me at two years of age by absolutely loving weight pull at his debut pull event and his personal best on rails is 2,960lbs.

Butter is entirely Handler-Owner-Trained. He would likely be far more successful with a better trainer and handler. I'm pretty much a novice and I don't really have a club to call home.
