von Vielfalt Happenings

2022

Things went slow for Vielfalt early in 2022 but picked up exactly when Butter hit a year of age; for his birthday we entered in Fast CAT that weekend. Since that overlapped with a nearby Updog trial, we did both. He did great and outshined my 5yr Aussie, Poppy, in both events.

I had always wanted to introduce him to bitesport so I nagged some folks to instinct test my dog... let's just say 2022 was the year I realized I had a dog that loved bitesports.

The rest of the year was spent on building important skills for NASDA, Updog, Barn Hunt. Unforunately due to lack of local trials we were unable to enter Barn Hunt this time around, but we debuted in UKC instead!

March 19th

This was Butter's second Updog event and he did great! Since he was still very young, we kept it very short. Which was a good thing, since the little man was very uncoordinated. But he was doing great with all the strange dogs and people, generally just focused on his people. He was offering wonderful obedience and generally just being a good lil dude.

April 10th

On this day we took all three dogs (Rap, Poppy, and Butter) to a Barn Hunt workshop. Butter, being used to the cats swatting at him, ran away and barked at the rat. It was hilarious. Obviously the following two days he did not qualify in a single Barn Hunt trial run, but it was good exposure!

May 13th

This was Butter's first major trial ever! We entered day-of in two Fast CAT trials and pre-entered in Updog. Butter netted himself a grand total of 88 points in Fast CAT. That same weekend we did Fritzagility (with bars on the ground) for fun and he loved the tunnels! He played Time Warp, Spaced Out, Boom, and Far Out for the first time as well. Butter placed 3rd in Far Out

June 11th

Second IGP club meet. Butter displayed a strong off-switch by settling well when the decoy was not actively working a dog. His on-switch was just as strong, as the moment the decoy picked up the sleeve he would transition into work mode.

June 4th

Butter and I made our first trip out to a DVG IGP club! Expectations were low with how calm Butter is, but he absolutely flipped out once Pete Kovach started teasing him. At one point I tied him to a table while I was taking pictures and he was so mad he couldn't get to the decoy that he tried chewing the fence. What a pleasant surprise.

July 24th

Kali & I decided last minute to run to Updog club. Butter netted himself a 4th in Greedy and a 3rd in Far Out. He also played Throw n Go. His run in Greedy put him in the top 60% of dogs playing Greedy in Updog, and 44% qualified for Updif 2022! Wow!

August 6th

Kali and I made a trip to a Barn Hunt workshop. It seems like before the Fast CATs Butter's prey drive hadn't kicked in, because this time he was completely on board. He is now ready to trial in Barn Hunt.

September 4th

Butter ran three runs in AKC Fast CAT and earned his BCAT title. He also beat his personal best in MPH!

October 7th

This was our (Butter and I's) first UKC conformation show. We showed under the honorable Glenda and Paul Bruneau. Butter was awarded 2nd in class under Glenda and Best Male under Paul. He earned one competition win.

October 8th

On Saturday we came back feeling strong, but got humbled. We showed under the honorable Debra Florek and David Arthur in a very competitive entry of 22 GSD. Butter was awarded 2nd in class under both judges. We met and made a lot of friends this day.

October 9th

At the last day of our Athen TN UKC show, we showed under the honorable Helena Engelauf and Stephanie Mueller. Butter was awarded Best Male under both judges, and earned his last two competition wins. Now he just needs fifty more points to become a champion.
